Android 7.0 Nougat could roll out this week
We've known we're closing in on the release of Android 7.0 Nougat for quite a while now, but a new rumor is suggesting that we might get the highly anticipated update to Google's mobile OS sooner rather than later. According to these new whispers, Android 7.0 Nougat could be arriving as early as the end of this week.
That report comes courtesy of Evan Blass, more commonly known to the world as Twitter user @evleaks. He says that Android Nougat will be coming with Android's August 5 security patch, and while that may not mean it'll be here specifically on Friday, it should arrive somewhere in the vicinity of that date. Blass also said that Nexus 5 owners will be left out in the cold with the update to Android Nougat, so users who want to have an up-to-date phone might want to consider picking up a newer Nexus device.
The Nexus 5x and Nexus 6p will definitely be getting Android 7.0 Nougat, and they'll be among the first devices to receive the update. Nexus devices have historically received updates quicker than phones from other manufacturers, and it's likely we'll see the same thing this time around. For everyone else, when you'll receive Nougat is up to the whims of both your manufacturer and your carrier.
As with all rumors, take this one with a grain of salt, but keep in mind that Blass has a history of accurately leaking information before official announcements are made. Google recently unleashed the final developer preview of Android Nougat, so the arrival of 7.0 is indeed drawing nearer. Luckily for us, we don't have much longer to wait before we find out if Blass was right, so stay tuned.
